Belfast Int for an Hour

Having to take the wife shopping to Newry is not that bad when you can leave her there and drive up to Belfast Int for an hour. A heavy snow shower visited me on the way up and when I got there it was very quite. On arrival I meet a local spotter called Colin funny enough and he showed me the best place for shots Thanks Colin. As I said very quite but did see the following.

Premier at Cork

Thanks again to Paul Daly for the pictures and info.

Premier D-IFMC which made a day trip to Cork from EDTY Hessenal, Germany yesterday 29th Jan. The aircraft is registered to GEMUe GmbH and was the 27th Premier built.

OE-IAE

Its a nice sight to see a aircraft been taken out of the mantenence hangers after a long wait after SLR tec went south.This aircraft OE-IAE
of Seagle Air ex OM-HLE is a busy A320 with this been its seventh reg.
Today it did engine runs on the old 23 runway and the shot shows it back on stand 104. The mantenence is being done by Dublin Aerospace.

R44 at Weston

Quick visit to Weston this morning turned up very little but this shot was nice with the three R44s in a line.They are a very popular copper and Ireland has plenty of them.

Bonds at Cork

Bond Helicopters have taken over the contract to ferry oil rig workers to the platforms of the Cork coast. Photos are of the two Eurocopter EC135 G-CGHP which was only delivered in Dec 2009 and the other is G-BZRS which is an older machine delivered in 2001 and was used by the Welsh police.Many thanks go to Paul Daly for the shots and his time.

Weather was again bad this morning so I went to Weston to get a shot of this mapper G-MAPP (cn 402B/0583) Owned by Simmons Mapping (UK) Ltd. Then left there for Dublin with no joy , the weather was to bad but the new Ryanair B737 EI-EKD was in the Ryanair hanger.

Peas soup

No luck at Dublin today for any type of shot as it was like peas soup and very cold. I have a log of local moments below.

New airline fills Globespan slots at Glasgow

A new airline is to operate out of Glasgow Airport following the collapse of Flyglobespan, it has been announced.

Kiss Flights, which operates from eight UK airports outside Scotland, will be offering 12 summer routes to Mediterranean destinations from April.

They include Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.

A spokesman said flights will be operated on behalf of Kiss Flights by Swedish carrier Viking Airlines, using a Boeing 737 aircraft.

Kiss Flights director Paul Moss said: "Kiss Flights are enjoying a period of strong growth and we are delighted to be able to offer these flights from Glasgow.

We are determined to ensure that holidaymakers continue to have a wide choice of airlines and destinations from Glasgow

"We are making good progress in our efforts to backfill the capacity lost by Globespan, and this latest announcement from Kiss Flights is further good news for passengers.

"We are determined to ensure that holidaymakers continue to have a wide choice of airlines and destinations from Glasgow. Competition equals lower prices for travellers."

'Several announcements'

She added: "This is the first of several announcements we hope to make in the coming weeks as we continue our work to backfill the capacity lost by Globespan, and secure new international routes for Glasgow."

Flyglobespan was grounded on 16 December when its Edinburgh-based parent company, Globespan, was put into administration.

Industry insiders said it took with it capacity of 700,000 return flights during this year from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports, only a fraction of which has been taken up by other operators.

However, last week Barrhead Travel, the Scottish travel agency, announced that it was chartering British Airways aircraft to carry Glasgow customers with cruise and package bookings in Majorca and Barcelona.

An ArkeFly flight carrying 235 people from Amsterdam to Aruba in the Caribbean was forced to divert to Ireland on Wednesday after an unruly Dutch passenger made bomb threats during the flight.
ArkeFly said Flight 361 landed at Shannon Airport, where the man was handed over to authorities. There were 224 passengers and 11 crew aboard the Boeing 767.

Irish police identified the man as a 44-year-old Dutch national and said he was in custody.

"He came across as a very unstable and aggressive passenger during the flight and he mentioned several times that he had planted a bomb in the airplane," an ArkeFly spokeswoman said.

There was no indication he had attempted to set off any sort of device during the flight, she said.

A spokeswoman for Shannon airport said the twin-aisle airliner had been towed to a remote location for a police search.

The plane is being held in a secured area until after its scheduled landing time at 7:30 p.m. British time as a precaution in case there are any timed devices on board, ArkeFly said.

A representative of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol declined to comment on the incident.

The early reports of the threat immediately raised fears of another attempted plane bombing out of Amsterdam.

A 23-year-old Nigerian man flew out of Schiphol on Christmas Day has been charged in the United States with attempting to blow up that flight as it neared Detroit.

Schiphol has since tightened security, though primarily for flights to the United States. Nonetheless its international reputation has been sullied.

ArkeFly, which is headquartered in Schiphol, primarily operates charter flights. It is a unit of the global travel group TUI Travel Plc.. Aruba, a Caribbean island that is an autonomous part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is a popular tourist destination during the European winter
